50 Students from Burlington VT, go to The United Nations in NYC for The International Day of Peace, Students’ Day

October 6, 2014

On September 19, two days before the world recognized The International Day of Peace, and held the Climate March, youth from around the nation gathered at the UN in New York City to participate in the student day event.

50 culturally diverse Vermont students attended the event, and were excited to be at the UN, celebrating the important day. The students were engaged with the panelists which included Jane Goodall and Yo Yo Ma. Feedback from the group was that they were very excited to be at the UN, and really valued the panelists and learned so much from everyone. Many students had never been to NYC before, and saw the trip as a great opportunity. The trip was organized and supported by Children of the Earth and by a few people at Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program.

After the event in the conference room, the group took a tour of the United Nations and then went to the World Trade Center Memorial to contemplate peacebuilding together. The students came from many different cultures and backgrounds and they all embraced each other’s cultural differences and enjoyed NYC together.
