Government of Dubai Partners with SynergY for ‘What Worked’ 2012/2013
By COE Chapter Leader UAE Simran Vedvyas
More than 1,500 educators attended “What Works,” including many headmasters and principals of various schools and institutes, teachers, academia and students from across UAE.
“What works” is a very inspiring and encouraging initiative. Since its launch in September 2012, “What Works” has attracted 120 schools in Dubai. Organized by education professionals from across Dubai’s private schools, this final event of the 2012-2013 academic series was long awaited and well supported. In addition to teachers and student volunteers, representatives from Dunia Young Business Leaders Program, Youth in the Emirates Longitudinal Study, and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding were also present at the event as Partners to share their expertise.
SynergY youth group was chosen by the government of Dubai to partner and be a presenter for the event. Members proudly showcased the interesting work done by SynergY in recent months at the finale event themed “What Worked for the year 2012-2013.”
Simran Vedvyas, fourteen-year-old founder and chairperson, commented "SynergY members are enthusiastically recognized and supported by all segments of the society and I am very happy and proud to lead SynergY by example and join hands with volunteers, students and members from various institutions across UAE.”
SynergY members had the opportunity to attend many focused and interesting workshops and lectures. They learned about opportunities available to youth and are determined to share with all the team members what they learned and what may lie ahead.
Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described the beauty of “What Works” is in its simplicity because teachers, leaders and inspiring speakers come from within the community, meaning that the practices and knowledge shared is practical, relevant and, most importantly, sustainable.
SynergY is a group of young students from across the UAE who advocate the adoption of a more ecologically sustainable lifestyle. They work to inspire and motivate students to strive for a more sustainable society.
