IDP 2012 Celebration in Rwanda

Conference/ debate on the International day of peace 2012 theme” Sustainable peace for sustainable future”.  Students presented their worries and recommendations for moving the earth toward sustainable peace. they emphasized on the necessity of building an inclusive world, where equity and freedom are sacred values. Jean de Dieu facilitated discussions. Around 300 students attend the discussions.

After the conference, a football for peace match was organized. The game pursues the following objectives :

  • develop peacemaking skills with emphasis on negotiation;
  • promote the values such as teamwork, perseverance, discipline, respect of rules, sense of responsibility, and compassion;
  • encourage a competitive spirit without harming others;
  • develop self-empowerment and self-confidence among participants, including young women and men;
  • foster fair and peaceful play among participants;
  • provide a conducive environment which allows to practice acquired peacemaking skills;

At the end of the match, players gathered for a summary about the match. The questions asked during this moment include the following: did you experience any conflict during the game? How did you deal with the conflicts? What lesson did you learn? Etc. Jean de Dieu Basabose facilitated the session.
