Summary
To generate peace, we must foster compassion and education, especially among girls in Africa. They are under threat of kidnapping if they try to better themselves. However, when girls are educated and empowered, they support their communities. Families are better fed, and their health improves. Girls' Education and Empowerment Training project in Africa, mostly Nigeria, provides programs that give young girls who are in fear for their lives a way to learn and empower building a better community.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Today in Nigeria, girls are raised surrounded by violence and fear. They have often lost their sense of possibility and they feel lost in a sense of lack. They've fallen into a belief that only conflict and bloodshed will make change. They are afraid to seek an education and not able to imagine a better life. It's important that trust is fostered by people from within their community showing, teaching and sharing with them the truth of peaceful change.

How will this project solve this problem?
Our programs focus on peaceful methods and positive contributions to the community. One Peaceful Africa (OPA) had success from an event that taught the girls to go into the community to pick up trash and use it to build a beautiful bench. Tangible lessons such as this educate the girls by showing them how to contribute and lifting their sense of responsibility and empowerment. By teaching crafts, they find pride in their creative African heritage and are able to make money by selling the goods.

Potential Long Term Impact
OPA's goal is to establish a prototype "Girls' Education and Empowerment Peace Training" in Nigeria which will be replicated in other African countries. By lifting hope, reaching the creative spirit and teaching contribution instead of destruction, these girls can spread positive results to their communities. As they learn to raise money through sales, they will be able to invest in their dreams and ambitions to get an education and end the cycle of poverty and improve their role as a woman.
