El Tunco, El Salvador Children’s Visions Project
Thinking holistically means knowing that everyone and everything is part of a wider system. It means understanding that if we're going to help children break free from poverty, we must first empower their mothers, improve their schools, outfit their health clinics and build their water facilities. It means making change sustainable so that children can realize their rights, get their education and live to their full potential. Sustainable Change! Attainable Change!
In El Salvador Children’s Visions is fostering the development of conscious communities. Our holistic Adopt a community development model lifts communities out of poverty -- one school, one medical clinic, one clean water system at a time.
In 2010 work began on a M.A.D. (Make A Difference) project for an English school, Flowmotion classes and surf club for the local underserved children around the community of El Tunco, El Salvador. One of the most effective ways to help a child in a developing country is to further their education. This program fosters the development of authentic expression helping the young people find meaning from within. The children are inspired to explore their indigenous heritage and express their spiritual values.
The children participate in fun social action projects that contribute to the wellbeing of their community; like the Sea Turtle release and beach cleanup. They are empowered by knowing that in their own efforts they make a difference for all.
Nelson Bejarano is the English teacher and Barbara AllinBloom, Gwen Blome, Nebula and local surf instructors work to inspire the children and facilitate the program. Many of the children in El Salvador have to start working at a very young age selling homemade jewelry to tourist just to be able to eat every day. This way of life doesn’t enable them to have much schooling. The language center can provide these children with English classes in the evening to give them the skills that will be able to help them with their quality of life.
Because these kids have to work during the day and weekends, they are only able to watch the surfers from the shore. It is a dream come true for these kids to have the opportunity to be able to learn to surf.
We are establishing micro-financed projects to empower the mothers to have opportunities to support their families.
