COE Helps Pakistan Flood Victims

Children of the Earth members bring hope to Flood victims in Pakistan.

In the beginning of August, COE Chapter Leader, Ashfaque Hussain was on his way to work in the early morning hours, when he saw crowds of people sitting out in the rain next to the main road. These shivering men, women and children had spent the night out in the rain and cold, because they had recently lost their homes and all their belongings in the floods that ruined large areas of Pakistan.

Ashfaque was so disturbed by this sight that he decided to get of the bus, return home and he immediately summoned all COE chapter members in Sukkur for an emergency meeting. In a collective effort, they gathered what personal savings they had and purchased ten tents to give shelter to some of these displaced people. Ashfaque was later told that shortly after they donated the tents, a woman gave birth to a child inside one of them.

Thousands of people are streaming to the cities from different areas in search of aid and Ashfaque is acting as a mediator for the people without ID papers, who are being turned away by the government officers at the relief camps. School buildings are also now used to house some of the flood victims.

Both COE chapters in Sukkur and Lahore have appealed to COE members world-wide to help support the disaster relief efforts with donations. They urgently need to buy and provide more drinking water, milk powder, food, medicine and shelter to the suffering people as the situation worsens day-by-day, with life-threatening diseases like gastro infections now starting to spread widely, especially affecting young children.
To date, COE members have donated a total amount of $600 which was divided between the two chapters in Pakistan.
