COE Youth Finds a Home for 50 Used Indoor Plants
Plants play a vital role in providing a pleasant and tranquil environment in which to move, work or relax. Indoor plants also help health, wellbeing and productivity in the workplace. Recent research has shown that indoor plants significantly improve a whole range of aspects of our indoor environment. The benefits cover a spectrum from physically cleaner air to direct beneficial effects on psychological health, task performance, illness reduction and productivity.
Many times when people renovate or refurbish their offices, homes or work places, especially in construction sites and temporary project office sites or, being an expat-based economy when people leave the country, it is a common practice to discard, abandon or sell old stuff. Some of our youth members surveyed and found that this is a very common practice and most items can be sold and bought through secondary markets, but very rarely do we find buyers or takers for ‘Old Plants’. We brainstormed and came up with a highly Innovative and creative idea by team SynergY and its members who participated in ‘Sustainability Week Celebration’ with a project titled “Finding New Homes for Indoor Plants” and implemented it successfully.
Taking it as a challenge, the team assisted by talking and facilitating to find new homes for 50 indoor plants for a local company. The plants are now being taken care of at Al Salam Private School in Dubai. “I am so proud to lead this and participate by asking on behalf of the donating company and giving consent on the behalf of the accepting school. The co-ordination required transporting the plants from as far as Abu Dhabi to Dubai and we are so happy that it went smoothly. Our team would be very happy to further assist such initiatives in UAE” says Simran Vedvyas.
