COE Congratulates Malala Yousafzai on Nobel Peace Price
Girls’ education is a basic right that benefits the whole of society. After the 2012 attack on Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating education for women and the kidnapping of more than 200 young girls from a school in Nigeria by the terrorist group Boko Haram girls education including the safety of young girls going to school became right at the heart of the public interest.
Today according to the BBC World Pakistani child education activist Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian child rights campaigner, have jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize. Malala said she was "honoured" to receive the award, saying it made her feel "more powerful and courageous” (BBC). Children of the Earth wants to congratulate Mala with this exceptional and well-deserved achievement.
“Educate a girl and you educate the world. Congratulations to Malala for the courage she showed. I would re-quote what President Barack Obama said at the UN General Assembly in 2012 " The future must not belong to those who bully women. It must be shaped by girls who go to school and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons"
Simran Vedvyas - Chapter Leader COE Dubai, United Arab Emirates
“We believe that the next generation will have the courage to be one caring family of humankind. It is education that will alter our behaviors and foster a deep caring about our world”
Nina Meyerhof - President COE, United States of America
“Malala has been able to shed the light on girls education in Pakistan and beyond which means there’s a growing awareness of the idea of empowering women for the benefit of society. Something that deserves and needs celebration at the level of the Nobel Peace Price”
Saskia Troy - Regional Coordinator COE Europe, The Netherlands
“One of ours aims is to strengthen the dialogue between the generations which is between today and tomorrow’s decision makers. Educating girls is empowering the future leaders of society”
