Building A Culture of Peace Youth Leadership Institute (the Institute) is an on-going long term project that offers opportunities for American and international youth to learn leadership skills and knowledge necessary for participating in the movement of building a culture of peace worldwide now and in the future.

The summer camp of EYES was really great! EYES stands for Empowering Youth in a European Society and is a network of young European citizens pursuing active self-empowerment. During the week within France there were many people from different cultures and organizations, as well as political flavors.

Cameroon

Organized a conference on a non-violent approach to conflict resolution.

 

Kenya

Used positive media to highlight youth, peace and sustainability.

 

Rwanda

Organized a community dialogue session focused on ways to sustain peace for a sustainable future. 

 

Pakistan

Organized a walk with school children and distributed new dresses to a women's shelter.

 

United Arab Emirates

Held a peace concert organized by a music school and distributed care packages to underprivileged laborers.

 

Netherlands

Introduce teenage girls from diverse backgrounds to do a service learning project in which they speak about friendship, tolerance and various cultural backgrounds.  

 

Romania

Celebrated with a gathering around a special fir tree called The Tree of Peace. Included a symbolic burial of children's war-toys under the tree.

 

Vermont

Students of diverse cultures participated in a peace-building workshop and traveled to the United Nations in NYC.

 

Philippines
Students gathered to create posters and write essays.

Chapter Leader Simran Vedvyas Recognized by Dubai Cares

I was honored as invited guest to attend the celebration of Dubai Cares 5th Anniversary, special ceremony, held under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai to recognize Dubai Cares individuals and organizations that continuously supported Dubai Cares for the past 5 years. 

 

I am proud to be a student of GEMS managed The Millennium School, Dubai United Arab Emirates. GEMS Education is driven by the desire to achieve excellence and meet local and community needs.

The Teddy Bear Journey Begins


The Teddy Bear Journey directed by Laura Simms  

 

THE TEDDY BEAR JOURNEY sponsored by Children of the Earth and designed by storyteller Laura Simms launched a new arts program for young children in a small camp in Port au Prince, Haiti. Our report will describe the Teddy Bear Journey in the context of the children's art program. The teddy bears instigated a brilliant surprising and joyful event that was loved by the children, and everyone else in the camp. The lovely bears were irresistible. They had tremendous significance for the children who became their caretakers.

COE's Divine selected to participate in the inaugural edition of the 'Discovering Young Leaders Programme' DYLP course

The course will take place over 5 weeks from 17 September to 19 October, 2012. Particpants will take the course online via a wiki platform where they will be part of a social network and online discussions with other participants in 39 countries across the Commonwealth.

UAE Hub Leader Kehkashan Basu Attends Asia Pacific Conference on Giftedness

The 12th Asia Pacific Conference on Giftedness was held in Dubai, UAE from 14th to 18th July, 2012. This was the first time this biennial conference was held in the Middle East.  The 2012 conference was hosted by the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for the Distinguished Academic Performance,  which is also partnered by UNESCO.

 

The Children & Youth Conference, which was an integral part of this summit, brought together the most brilliant, gifted and intelligent 9-18 year old minds of the Asia Pacific Region. Almost 570 children attended this unique summit, with participants from Korea, Thailand, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon and other Asian nations.

A young, energetic, humble and ever smiling, always ready to walk an extra mile to help others are some words to describe Simran Vedvyas who is a student at The Millennium School Dubai, as also the Environment Prefect, Best Buddies Prefect and the Head Girl for the Arabic Club of the school.  Simran is one of the only six chosen from UAE.
